Terms and Conditions

Chess by Receipt is operated by Zachary Coffin.

What this is

Chess by Receipt is a service for playing correspondence chess by text message. Your opponent moves, you get a message, and you answer with your move. If you have a thermal receipt printer attached, moves print on paper as well.

The messaging programme

This is a standalone agreement to receive text messages from Chess by Receipt about your own games. It is not bundled with anything else, and agreeing to it is not a condition of any purchase.

Using the service

You need a mobile number that can send and receive text messages. There is no account and no password: links sent to your number are what identify you, so treat them as you would a password and do not forward them.

Do not use the service to harass anyone, to send unlawful content, or to attempt to disrupt or gain unauthorised access to it.

Your games

Moves are final once accepted, as they would be over a board. The service rejects illegal moves and tells you why; a rejected move is not played. Games with no activity for a long period may be closed.

Printers

If you attach a printer, it is yours to run and maintain. The service queues anything it cannot deliver and prints it when the machine is reachable again, but it cannot guarantee that a given slip reaches paper — text is the fallback.

Availability

This is a small service run for enjoyment. It is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It may be unavailable, and it may lose data. Do not rely on it for anything that matters.

Ending it

You can stop at any time by replying STOP or asking us to delete your data. We may suspend access that is being used abusively.

Changes

These terms may change; the date above will change with them.
